CT Colonography - An Alternative To Colonoscopy

 

CT Colonography is a new and sophisticated procedure that is used for patients who cannot tolerate a colonoscopy due to an abdominal blockage.

 

Patients without this specific medical problem can also have a CT Colonography although it may not be paid for by health insurance.

 

While the patient preparation is similar to a colonoscopy, CT colongraphy is performed in a CT scanner and the examination takes just 10-15 minutes.

 

It allows the physician to determine the health of your colon; however polyps or other obstructions cannot be removed during this exam and would require follow-up by a surgeon or an internal medicine specialist who performs colonoscopies.
