Chaplain's Corner | August 2011

Take a moment to look over your August calendar.  There are no national holidays, no seasonal observances, no extra days off (unless you are doing vacation).

I believe it is an opportunity to breathe easy, observe the bustle of the past months which tell us summer, which we hardly realized, is winding down. The rush of Fall, as promised, is ahead with all the changes in colors and what that brings.

Now, it may be different if you are trying to juggle young children and school schedules and expenses. That, means your August is full.  You'll have to wait until September to breathe your sigh of relief.

The world will continue to turn and life, as has always been, will continue to function. Our lives, as we pass through this stage, are only important to our family and friends, and so temporary.

Whatever we do to influence others for Christ is all that will remain in the lives and hearts of those we've touched as we've passed through. August is a good month for reflection, before the rush of Fall and festivities are upon us once again. What do you stand for? What will be your legacy? What will your loved ones remember?

Psalm 4::7 reads, "for God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with understanding".

In this break-neck, electronic society, you will still need to step back occasionally, and out of your regular role to refresh and rejuvenate, if you are to continue to function well in your roles.

Psalm 46:1 reads, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in life (actually reads trouble)." However, the 10th verse of that Psalm reads; "be still and know that I am God." Thus, if you are feeling you are god, or on the way to becoming a god, you will continue to be stressed and stretched tightly. At what point we realize we are not God, or in control as He is, differs for all of us; the sooner, the better!
