Diabetes Education


Our goal is to teach the skills needed to attain independence in Diabetes Management and activities of daily living.


Sessions focus on diet, medication, psychological aspects, exercise and complications. Instruction and support is provided by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals including a Diabetes Nurse Educator and a Registered Dietitian.

Patients may participate in the classes through physician referral, patient self-referral, or health care agency referral.

Group Classes

Classes are offered monthly once a week for four weeks at Henry County Hospital
 

Wednesday

9:00 am - 11:00 am


Thursday

5:00 pm - 7:00 pm
There is a small fee for the four class series which often is covered by insurance. The fee also includes a free glucometer.

Registration is required prior to attending.
   
Make-up sessions are available. Patients are encouraged to bring a family member or significant other.

  • General knowledge of diabetes
  • Hyperglycemia/hypoglycemia
  • Meal planning
  • Exercise
  • Medications
  • Self monitoring of blood sugar
  • Stress management
  • Prevention and treatment of acute and chronic complications
  • Community resources

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling sessions also are offered in:

  • Meter Teaching: Diabetes Nurse Educator
  • Insulin Instruction: Diabetes Nurse Educator
  • Diet Instruction: Registered Dietitian
  • Gestational Management: Diabetes Nurse Educator and Registered Dietitian
There is a fee for these sessions, however it may be covered by your insurance. Please check with your insurance carrier.
 


Gestational Diabetes
Women with gestational diabetes may attend one of the regular class sessions or arrange for individual counseling. There is a fee, however it may be covered by your insurance. Please check with your insurance carrier.
