Orthopedic Surgeon Damion Harris, MD FAAOS is now a Fellow of
the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons after receiving his board
certification.
To become a fellow, a candidate must first become certified
by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons and then be nominated to the
academy by another fellow. Board certification involves a two-part exam taken
over a two-year period. Part one is a written exam taken the first year a
candidate is eligible while the second part is an oral exam and is taken a year
after the written exam is passed.

Shoulder surgery can be complex. Dr. Harris, has had specialized training in shoulder surgery
including shoulder replacement
surgery, also called shoulder arthroplasty that is a successful, pain-relieving option for many people.
In addition to regular shoulder replacement, Dr. Harris
also is trained to perform reverse shoulder arthoplasty.
This surgical procedure is often used for people who have
shoulder arthritis coupled with an irreparable rotator cuff tear or those with
very complex shoulder problems, including previous failed surgical treatments.
