Orthopedic Surgeon Joins Henry County Practice
Dr. Harris To Specialize in Shoulder Injuries
NEW CASTLE: It was a natural progression for
Henry County Center for Orthopedic Surgery & Sports Medicine to pick up
Damion Harris, M.D., orthopedic surgeon and shoulder expert, for their team of specialists. Now all their bases are covered with expertise in knees, shoulders, hips and elbows in orthopedics and sports medicine. Henry County Hospital remains a leader in securing another all-star to help area residents stay at the top of their game.
As a former baseball pitcher, Dr. Harris found out first-hand what a joint injury felt like when he tore a ligament in his elbow during an Indiana All Star game. His personal experience led him to pursue a medical career in orthopedics and now he is part of the team of Lindsey Rolston, M.D., FAAOS, and Thomas Mathews, M.D., FAAOS, at Forest Ridge Medical Pavilion.
Dr. Harris is an orthopedic surgeon who also specializes in shoulder injury repair and joint replacement as well as elbow treatment, sports injuries, knees, hips and any condition associated with muscles, joints and bones. He received his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine and served his residency at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Division of Orthopaedic Surgery.
"I'm excited to join practice with Dr. Mathews and Dr. Rolston, whose experience and reputations are among the best in orthopedics," said Dr. Harris.
Focusing on shoulder repair, replacement
Adding to his skills of knee and hip replacement, Dr. Harris recently trained under Joshua Port, M.D. at Blair Orthopedic Associates and Sports Medicine in Altoona, Pennsylvania where he averaged performing 15 shoulder surgeries a week - fortifying his expertise and bringing the latest shoulder replacement skills to the practice.
Although not as well known as knee and hip replacement, shoulder replacement surgery, also called shoulder arthroplasty, is a successful, pain-relieving option for many people.
In addition to regular shoulder replacement, Dr. Harris is one of the few surgeons in Indiana who is trained to perform reverse shoulder arthoplasty. This surgical procedure is often used for people who have shoulder arthritis coupled with an irrepairable rotator cuff tear or those with very complex shoulder problems, including previous failed previous surgical treatments.
A member of the community
Born and raised in Butler, Indiana, north of Ft. Wayne, Dr. Harris commented, "I chose New Castle and Henry County Hospital because I'm from a small town and I like that atmosphere. I want to be in a place where there is a sense of community. It's more comfortable and like home as well as being closer to mine and my wife's families. And, I really enjoy working with Dr. Mathews and Dr. Rolston," he added.
In addition to his medical interests, Dr. Harris enjoys fly fishing, playing guitar and skeet shooting. He and his wife are parents of three children.
